IAM AN IGBO MAN - REGGAE LEGEND BUJU BANTON SAYS

Jamaican reggae legend, Buju Banton has stunned fans with his declaration that he is an Igbo man from Nigerian
Banton spoke at the Drink
Buju Official last August 8 explaining the origin of his name on the Drink Champs show
"Buju is a Maroon word. Maroons are some of the indigenous warriors on my Island. We fought the British relentlessly. Maroons are from...we called Blackamoors…My generation originated from Nigeria. I am an Igbo man according to my bloodline."
Buju speak Yoruba?
Two years ago, Buju had explained how he learned to speak Yoruba.
Buju credited it to his late mum who taught him how to speak the language although he's not Yoruba.

Buju condemned the type of music today in Africa saying it was more of dancehall which he described as appealing to sexuality and pleasure of the youth. He said there was no music that inspires the ongoing struggles in Africa.
He however acknowledged that all music, including raggae came from Africa but today, African music is bereft of freedom struggles for the the continent, unlike raggae, which he said was kings' music, divinely given to inspire and lead a struggle.
