What the presidential debate means to America ... Report

Madam Vice President,

This is wishing you good luck in today’s debate. Please, note the following:

(1) You are disadvantaged because your natural strength as a prosecutor is muted along with the microphones and this protects Trump from direct exchanges with you, which would have exposed his lack of self-control, indiscipline, childishness, intellectual laziness and essential emptiness. So, just understand that today, you are not a prosecutor, you are the prospective President addressing the nation about a problem and that problem is Donald Trump. You are telling them how unfit he was to sit behind the Resolute Desk the first time and how still unfit he is to sit behind it now. You are telling Americans that they need to wash this guy off their hair finally, so they can face a hopeful, joyful future under your leadership.

(2) Don’t just be all nice, sweet and polite; sting him when you smell blood without letting him drag you into a nasty spot with him. Show you can stand up to him without getting in his bumbling way. Help him to tumble over without aggressively pushing him.

(3) Tell Americans that Donald Trump cannot seem to get over the fact that you’re the one in this race with him and not President Biden. He goes on television to talk as though he’s still in the race against President Biden and then suddenly he’s turned around to propose “modifying” the 25th Amendment to allow for the removal of a vice president who “lies or engages in a conspiracy to cover up the incapacity of the president.” Apparently, he thinks you’ve lied or engaged in some kind of conspiracy by supporting President Biden’s candidacy until he himself decided to step aside. Perhaps, Trump is just trying to scare Mr Vance in a roundabout way because he cannot possibly be referring to you. Let him know that President Biden is not incapacitated, which is why he remains the President of the United States running the affairs of the nation capably and competently. That he patriotically stepped aside from the presidential race to reduce the stress on himself is not because he is incapacitated; it is because, unlike Trump, he humbly and honestly recognises his limit at his age. If he is incapacitated, Americans would be the ones calling for him to leave office, not just the presidential race. Actually, let Trump know that you strongly believe that only one person in this race is unqualified by virtue of obvious incapacity and that is him, Donald Trump. Tell him that if he doubts this, you challenge him to join you to take a cognitive test, so Americans know that any of you who wins in November has the mental and physical capacity to lead the United States of America as President. Tell him, “Mr Trump, the ball is in your court.”

(4) You will be challenged on your changing positions on some of the issues, but let Trump know that your response to that would not be to also accuse him of changing positions at the drop of a hat on abortion or immigration and so on. This is because you know that people can evolve and it’s okay as far as you can explain your evolution. It’s not a crime to mature observationally and reconsider a policy position when facts require you to do so. You have stated that your values are the same, but if Trump is going to worry about shifts you have made, then he should be showing how those shifts have changed your values or how the former positions you’ve held are better than the positions you presently hold. Let Americans know that you are happy to move with mainstream America if the facts take you there. You wish Trump would change some of his atrocious positions, some of which he’s been touting since 2016, some of which have failed while he was President, some of which are already failing even now that he’s on the campaign trail.

(5) We’ve seen Trump’s playbook before and some of the things he’s threatened he will do if he wins are not only things he will do if he wins; he will still attempt to do them when he loses because they're part of his chaos and cruelty tour pre, during and post-election, no matter the outcome. Trump has said if he wins, he will jail election officials he considers cheats, but we know he’s actually talking about honest people who wouldn’t allow him to cheat. He’s threatening Brad Raffensperger and people like him who wouldn’t do his criminal bidding. Someone will have to stand up for honest public officials who won’t do the bidding of a man with the morality of an alley cat and you will. When he says he’ll pardon January 6 rioters, someone will have to stand up for the rule of law, national security and democracy and you will. When he tries to intimidate the women who accused him of sexual misconduct, we need to let these women know that decent Americans stand with them as they seek justice and closure. Trump must not be allowed to bully Americans into silence; Americans must all stand up to him by rejecting him in November.

(6) Preface anything you’re saying about immigration with a promise to first pass the border bill that Trump killed because he wants to play politics with the issue of immigration, rather than help solve the problem. You must say working to pass the border bill would be one of the first things you’ll do once elected since this was a bipartisan bill that Trump killed for no just cause. Passing the bill is a first step to addressing the problem of the border as it would indicate that all parties are genuinely committing themselves to finally solving the problem. Contrast the dedication and seriousness people of both parties have put into passing the historic border bill that Trump killed with his campaign’s scaremongering tactic of openly lying that migrants in Ohio are killing and eating family pets. This is a lie openly championed by Trump’s VP candidate, JD Vance and the authorities there have had to come out to say this is a lie. Does engaging in such childish but dangerous antics indicate that Trump and his people are serious about solving the immigration problem? You will work with serious members of Congress of both parties to deal with the immigration issue once and for all and you will start with working to pass and sign the abandoned border bill.

(7) I’ve advised earlier that you need to call Vladimir Putin Trump’s boss to his face. Please, do it during this debate. Trump will not like it and you will see how he would wilt under that “insult.” Already, you can see him and Putin choreographing their next talking point on the campaign trail, which is that Putin actually supports you and not him. Please, whenever talking about Putin in this debate, turn to Trump and say: “Vladimir Putin, your boss, wants to continue using you and his agents here and around the world to divide Americans, but we are not going back!”

(8) To male voters, and possibly even female voters, who think you may not be able to stand up to world leaders because you’re a woman, where have they been for the past three or four years that you’ve been Vice President? As the American VP, you’ve met every leader that the President has met and you have talked with them in the company of the President or alone. Seriously, in international affairs, leaders don’t engage in fisticuffs, despite Trump pretending it’s a macho thing. It is a sober and intellectual thing as proven by many great women who have led nations in history and who are still leading nations today. So, no one should fear that Kamala Harris is going to appear on TV one day with a black eye from a blow delivered by a foreign strongman. You are a seasoned and tested leader who understands America’s place in the world and who would judiciously use the many intellectual and material resources at your disposal to push policies that benefit America and the free world anywhere. Under your leadership, America will apply itself competently and respectfully in matters of foreign policy and national security.  World leaders who worry about Donald Trump are not afraid of him because he’s a strong leader. Throughout history, America has had many strong leaders, but Trump isn’t one of them. World leaders of democratic countries worry about him because they see him as unstable, incompetent and a tool of Vladimir Putin. They are worried that he would finally gamble away America’s leadership on the world stage and expose the free world to fascism and possibly a war of the worst kind. America has managed to gain back its international position as the leader of the free world after the wasted years of Trump's mediocrity in the White House. Americans are not going back. Americans need to do away with misogyny; America has too much talent to keep dividing themselves on the gender line. Sure, America has never had a woman President and what that simply means is that there is no basis to think a woman cannot do the job of the President and Commander-in-Chief simply because she’s a woman. You are standing on that stage and asking Americans for their votes because you believe you are most qualified to be President amongst all those presently vying to be, including Donald Trump.

(9) For those who say Trump is a strong leader, say boldly on that stage that you do not see any strength in him. Tell Americans your idea of strength in public service is certainly different from whatever Trump projects. A strong leader is one who genuinely cares about people and who would move heaven and earth to make things better for them, not a selfish leader who cares only for himself and his billionaire friends. What is strong in a leader who whines all the time about small things and who is eternally suffering from a persecution complex? What is strong about a 78-year-old man who has no self-control and who eternally behaves like a kindergarten dropout?  You did say he is an unserious man, but he is also a dangerous man. Those who confuse his mean-spiritedness and sheer callousness for strength should understand that putting America in his hands this time would be too risky. He has nothing to lose if he goes all out and acts on his worst instincts because he won’t be seeking the votes of Americans again. The American people will be the losers. Americans mustn’t play Russian roulette with the nation’s fate by entrusting it to Donald Trump.

(10) Don’t let Trump bully you with lies that the economy did better when he was President than it’s doing now. Talk your policy specifics, but let Americans know that the evidence is that the US appears to be doing better under you and President Biden’s leadership. You have gotten inflation down far and fast without triggering a deep recession. The US has only managed to pull this off only once in the last 60 years and that was between February 1994 and February 1995. The US economy currently has low inflation, low unemployment, booming manufacturing and the US dominates in technologies of the future like AI and gene editing. Even rising inequality which has soared for years has abated. Remind Americans that Trump oversaw the worst economy in modern history and that America lost 2.7 million jobs when he was President.

(11) Call out those Trump supporters being radicalized and being trained in the cockpit of conspiracy theory tagged "Trump Force 47." He’s preparing them to be his shock troops in the election as part of his destabilization agenda. Tell them they are not being trained as patriots. They are being used to destroy democracy in America. Such fascist contraptions have no place in America. As part of their political training, they are being told that Biden died three years ago. In what world would a US president’s death be secretly hushed up because some people want to win a political game against some people? Americans must not outsource the basic work of their brains to others. You do not have to have a college degree to have common sense. Step away from "Trump Force 47” immediately, you must tell them!

(12) Specifically address Republicans who are tired of Trump, but who are not so sure they should vote for you. Tell them you aren’t trying to make them Democrats. You are calling on them to show patriotism this time by ensuring that they join you to keep Trump out because he represents a clear and present danger to the republic. They know him better than the rest of America, which is why they don’t want him. They know Trump has executed a hostile takeover of the Republican Party and now he wants to execute a hostile takeover of America. This is country over party; they need to step out and join you to take Trump down. They need to know that they will never get back their beloved Republican Party until they help to defeat Trump decisively in November. Specifically call out Nikki Hayley voters. Remind them that President Biden told them that there is a place in his campaign for them. Tell them there is a place in your campaign specially for them because if anything, you know that you and them agree on decency in public service. No one should be looking at their kids growing up and hopefully bossing tomorrow America and be telling them they’re voting for Donald Trump today. No one wants to hear of Donald Trump in the 2026 midterm or in 2028. No one wants to re-litigate sheer anger without substance. Yes, there are people who support Trump because they genuinely fear for the direction they think the country is going, but you’re here to tell them that it will be okay. Hope this time is a destination and America will get there with you. Americans just have to turn the page from Trump. Republican moderates thinking Democrats will go too far if you win should bury the thought. You know America; America is Moderate Country and no matter the ideology anyone spouts on the soapbox, if they aren’t moving instinctively to the centre, they will lose most Americans. You are bringing people together! You are a natural centrist and you have a big tent welcoming all to your Politics of Joy after many years of Trumpian Darkness!
