They branded themselves as endtime soul winners preparing the saints for the rapture and with absolutely no penchant for all things pecuniary. They behaved like exactly what Jesus instructed his disciples to do—despise earthly possessions and focus on the kingdom.
There was no:
God of Adeboye
God of Oyedepo
God of Chosen etc.
They changed the message when they realised there's a lot of money to be made by perpetually collecting 10% of people's hard-earned salaries and wages, in Tithes and much more in offerings.
None of them was rich or from a wealthy background.
Today, through this gospel, many of them are now doing the exact opposite of Christ's ministry. Jesus Christ has become an ever-receding subject in their new calling—in service of Mammon.
These men and their lifestyles are now the central theme of the gospel they preach. They mindlessly flaunt wealth and completely go against Christ who asked us to give unconditionally to the poor, saying giving to the poor would not make you prosper. What??
They are now referred to as "Fathers of faith".
