Pan Africanism doesn't mean we shouldn't disintegrate. Pan Africanism in my understanding means giving Africa back to Africans. Is the present African nations' maps African? Those are colonial maps drawn in Berlin scramble for Africa.
Dividing the nations into willing ethnic nationalities through plebiscite is the next Independence. The first phase of the African independence was the handover of the reins of power to colonial masters' chosen ethnics and leaders who still serve their masters. The next fight which is making Africa ungovernable is the fight for true Independence of the ethnic nations. This must come to pass or we will still be running in circles.
You are absolutely correct. Nigeria faces two forms of terrorism
1) The forceful merger of diverse ethnic groups and imposition of a garrison state is in itself a variety of terrorism.
2) Boko Haram.
and Nomadic terrorists represent the second variety of terrorism.
There cannot be African unity unless the rights of indigenous peoples to live and die on their own terms are recognised
Pan African was popular in the collective fight against Western colonialism
Today the battle is against internal colonisers
Julius Eto: There will still be fights in/among d ethnic groups even if they become independent states. For example, in my Delta, there's no unity and there are calls for more states which is d same picture in SW, SE, and other parts of d country.
Only a united super African force can put down terrorism and separatism as evidenced by d successes of d USA and some other countries in this regard.
udumak28: Many people don't recognize this point. They think that continuing the colonial map means patriotism. But who is the map serving? Outsider interests. And they are the ones insisting on the status quo. Because they fear that true African map manned by the true African leaders will stop them from benefitting from the free resources of Africa. Biafra was the first case. Britain had to back Nigeria because of oil and gas. But the carnage has spread to the rest of Africa
[6/6, 4:44 PM] udumak28: Using the US to compare to Africa is wrong. The US or Europeans remember murdered millions of the indigenous peoples of the Americas and imposed colonialism. In the US, due to slavery differences, the South tried to secede but failed. But the agitation continues. It failed mainly because the superior power is Anglo. And the blacks joined. And they are both whites. In Africa, the people are indigenous, not colonialists or immigrants that outnumbered the natives. Europe recognized this and ensured that the ethnic nationalities there became nations. Here, people of diverse cultures and ancestries are dumped and lumped together for an outsider interest.
On continued fighting after the next phase of Independence, it will be triggered by outsiders as happened in South Sudan. But it will be handled by proper negotiations. In fact, the AU and the UN should insist on those things that will bring peace to the people. Most of the fights will come because of natural resources. And the fight in Isoko etc is because of the Nigerian sharing formula. The true independence will end it greatly.
