Since this year, Russia has been taking Ukraine inch by inch.
Just two days ago, Ukraine sprang a surprise by being the first foreign military to invade Russia since the end of WW2. No one expected Ukriane would invade Russia and take up territories. In one swoop, Ukriane has taken up territory larger than what Russia got from Ukriane this year. Russia's reinforcement to Kursk region was decimated in an that reminds one of the decimation of the long Russian convoy rolling into Kiev at the beginning of the special operation.
I guess Putin is still in shock. We see how Ukriane is able to hold the territories it has captured.
If Ukriane takes more territories, then peace talks can commence. Maybe territories will be traded for territories.
