Recently, former Commonwealth Secretary General Chief Emeka, as leader of the Patriots, a group of elder statesmen, along with other delegates, met with president Bola Tinubu on the need for a new constitution as the one Nigerians today is highly flawed and does not reflect the peoples' will.
But some northern elders, whose region the said constitution is said to favour beginning disatisfaction and violence in the land have opposed the call.
One of them was Alhaji Yadudu.
But below is a statement by a leader of the callers for a new constitution explaining why Yadudi is opposed to the new constitution.
*THE ROGUE 1999 CONSTITUTION AND THE BIAFRA BLACKMAIL*
*Fellow Nigerians,*
Do you remember Prof. Yadudu? He was the Special Legal Adviser to Late General Sani Abacha. He was appointed to husband General Sani Abacha's self-succession transition from a Military Dictator to a Civilian President. Only death saved Nigeria from Abacha and Yadudu.
Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar retained Prof Yadudu upon assumption of Office as Military Head of State of Nigeria following the death of General Sani Abacha.
Prof. Yadudu and a few colleagues of his wrote the Rogue and Illegitimate 1999 Constitution of Nigeria with the collaboration of General Abdusalam Abubakars military Junta.
At the time President Obasanjo was sworn-in the first copy of that illegitimate and Rogue 1999 Constitution had not even been printed by the Government Press.
Prof. Yadudu unlawfully got a private Printer to print the first copies of the illegitimate and Rogue Constitution. This was the Secrecy that surrounded the document until it was dumped on Nigerians by May 29, 1999. Senators and Members to the House of Representatives only saw the illegitimate and Rogue Constitution after their swearing in on 3rd June 1999.
Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar is alive to tell the truth that the illegitimate and Rogue Constitution was never made by the Peoples of Nigeria. That Rogue document remains Decree Number 24 of 1999. It is the bedrock of the troubles of Nigeria.
To retain this status quo Prof. Yadudu blackmails that "any call for a Nigerian Peoples Constitution is an attempt to bring Biafra through the Back door".
Twenty five years of running Nigeria with an illegitimate and Rogue Constitution has been a disaster on the Country. The Federating Units of Nigeria are entitled to make a Peoples Constitution NOW.
