Wife in ancient Igbo

In the ancient Igbo setting, gender equality is not a thing.

This is not to say that a man is rather more important than a woman.

There are gender roles set aside for both genders starting from cultivation of food crops.

There are crops reserved for men only to cultivate.

A woman is not expected to cultivate yams and build barns.

A woman's primary role is to bear children cater for the home, and own a small garden where she cultivates female crops.

Unlike the men, women are excluded from owning landed properties, the sons she bears inherits them.

The ancient Igbo men takes it upon themselves to provide for their household, this is why the ancient Igbo women were referred to as Oriaku di ya ( The one who enjoys her husband's wealth).
