Married prostitutes of Kenya

Some years ago, there was a documentary on prostitution on the coast of Kenya and the most outstanding story was of a couple from Malindi who were both prostitutes. They are not prostitutes to the locals, their clientele are the foreigners.

The husband is a beach boy in dreadlocks. Not very good looking but slightly athletic. The wife is light skin, slim and gorgeous. They are both mijikendas.

The woman found the man in this business but still fell in love because she believed it was a business like any other. No feelings attached. The only problem was that there were times that there were no clients and he would be so broke and settle on menial jobs. At this point, surviving would be so difficult because the wife is jobless too.

During tourism peak season, they're rich but during off-peak, they'd go back to survival mode. The wife used to get stares and private invites for a night of fun from rich old foreigners, but would decline the offers because she knew she was someone's wife.

She tried resisting until she got tired of working for 300/day or going for days without a job yet she could make over 5,000 in one night. That's how both of them ventured into the business successfully.

The interviewer asked how they managed to live together under such circumstances and both of them said that they were just into business but they still respected and loved each other. They blamed it on the economy and their illiteracy which hinders them from getting formal employment.
