Ohafia communities abuzz with traditional retirement ceremonies this Dec

As Ohafia communities, including Akanu Ohafia and Isiugwu Ohafia, celebrate the retirement ceremonies of their age grades, tourism journalist, Justina Okpanku, reels out benefits of the Igba Uche.

Wow! What An Important Milestone@ Igba Uche!!

You must have heard about Ohafia, South-East Nigeria 🇳🇬 (26 towns and villages) where citizens provide portable water, build roads, hospitals, schools, multiple purpose halls, for their various communities.
The critical infrastructure and amenities are provided via an organised and unique age grade system.💃💃💃

Sure, men and women help to build the Ohafia economy and contribute to Ohafia development. You now understand what makes the neglected culture-active people of Ohafia tick. Ours is a viable system. We no dey wait for government o.
Igba Uche Akanu Ohafia

The news is, another age-grade in Akanu Ohafia, (last one was held four years ago) will be bringing in their sheaves to our beloved community, Akanu-ukwu, Mbabiugwu in their Igba Uche ceremony 👏👏👏
It will be a weeklong celebrations as family and friends will be home to support their loved ones. The must- see activities include a colourful processions ( very beautiful) before the unveiling of whatever the uke ( age groups) have for the community on December 28, 2024.
Many will heave a sigh of relief as they will be excused from further utu (bye bye to community service/ contribution). The 'Old Citizens' are henceforth on retirement from community service. What a milestone!🥰

The age of the age grade on outing is put between 60 and 65 years. We celebrate them, we dance for them and we appreciate them with prayers, gifts, money, name it. Don't even know what to give...A cousin said she is planning a beautiful party for her mom that will be suffused with music and dance. Heard from the gravevine that some exotic cars have been deployed to certain Akanu families, they are present o.

My loving sister, the Okpanku matriarch, Golden Mummy Blessing Uchendu nee Okpanku, is among the celebrants. I just dey hail am. Kawoo, woman leader 💯💯💯

I would also like to congratulate Dr. Nina Njoku Rev. Noami N. Kalu and some of my other loving family and friends who will be on showcase this December♥️

At birth, Ohafia sons and daughters are stylishly grouped according to their age for certain mandatory humanitarian roles. People born within four years period form an age grade.
The age grade system is depended upon to help the community. The various age groups are called upon to assist in community service. At a point, one or two age grades are called upon by the community elders to support the community in an area where there's need. They are given time to work towards it's realization. By so doing, Akanu Ohafia Secondary, for example, was established to serve Akanu and neighbouring Isiugwu, Abia, Ndi Uduma, NdiOrieke to mention a few. #JustinaJusttours
