I think we need to restart it. I believe it will help to save lives and reduce the high rising suspicions, bitterness, name shaming, waste of financial and other resources in the name of appeasing the gods ravaging our lovely home, Isiugwu Ohafia.
We need our doctors to point out common killer diseases in our community and have our doctors educate us on how to handle them. Life style, medical checks, good health talks, good health centers free provision of medicines, etc are some areas to touch on.
Again, I understand that the Women's IOCDA is geared towards renovating the Isiugwu Ohafia Health Center at Omaguzo. Well, it does appear all the good things are sited there without regard to nearness of those things to the majority of the people. Boreholes. Schools. Health Center, etc.
I had a chat last Monday with a lady who told me how she nearly lost her grand child at Ime ogo due to the distant health center. I mean what is the distance between the health center and Ime ogo? Over a kilometer! And it's hilly and lonely without transport vehicles in the night. But if it was at Ime ogo, more patients would patronize it all the time. Because it's far, mor lives are lost. In the absence or near absence of a health center in the Ime ogo, chemists or health care operators without RN or registered training, flood the town, handling cases outside their capacity. And in a community of a people, largely subsistent and ignorant, where they call an illegal health worker doctor, fake medicines everywhere, highly expensive and administered without test or expertise, frequent death is the order. Deaths which they attribute to some juju or deity because in the main, they never trusted orthodox medicine. To them, there's always a juju by the corner needing sacrifice, goats, drinks and all that. You shout yourself hoarse trying to provide an alternative thinking. But you are drowned in the sea of lack and ignorance.
That's where health talks come in. That's where the health post in Ime ogo needs activation. As Isiugwu Ohafia women poise to return the pride of the Isiugwu Ohafia health center, let them know that the real users of the health center are in Ime ogo. And that a second health center, this time properly equiped be sited there.
