Why Isiugwu Ohafia needs nearby health center

By Uduma Kalu

1. You tend to be unaware of the new demography and geography of 21st century Isiugwu Ohafia.
2. Are you aware that Isiugwu Ohafia today stretches from Kalu Okorie of Ndi Oji Abam road to the Akanu Ohafia -Ebem Road.
3. This distance here approximates the 4km distance from Isiugwu Ohafia community school to Ania today. That's from Kalu Okorie to the Omaguzo clinic is about 4km.
4. Ime ogo is therefore the center between the Ebem road/ Omaguzo Isiugwu Ohafia people. Tell me why a person from Kalu Okorie will trek to Omaguzo clinic in the dead of the night under emergency when Ime ogo is closest to him?
5. What's the essence of having the clinic in Omaguzo in the first place when it's meant to serve the majority of Isiugwu Ohafia people? There are no shops, restaurants or chemists, streams for patients or their aiders to patronize in emergencies in Omaguzo.
6. Saying we should continue the way of our grannies who travelled to Ania for medicare and ante natal shows we are not progressing. The question for you is why was the Ania clinic built in the first place? Of course to bring health care closer to the people. Why was the Omaguzo clinic built? To bring health care closer to the people. If distance doesn't matter, why build the Ania and Omaguzo health centers? The idea is to bring health care closer to people. Is the Omaguzo clinic closer to Isiugwu Ohafia people? No. If it was, it would not be dilapidated as many would have used it if sited at Ime ogo. If it was at ime ogo, it will be easily monitored as well.
7. The population of Isiugwu Ohafia is growing astronomically and habited area has exploded beyond the ancient settled map. So, the old idea of Omaguzo as the only Isiugwu Ohafia new layout suited for siting modern infrastructure in Isiugwu Ohafia should be discarded to accommodate the new expansion and settlements. Ime ogo today proves the center of the town necessary for the siting of those facilities that serve a large percentage of our population.
8. Ajike asked where in Ime ogo the health center can be sited. I think when Isiugwu Ohafia community wants to site it there, they will know where. First, that Abianya shop at the culvert which he told me he's been asked to vacate, is okay. Next is the Presbyterian church premises. And other shops and buildings in that center of the town.
9. And yes, I am not saying the Omaguzo clinic be closed. No, it can become an extension, not the main of the Isiugwu Ohafia clinic A reverse position and siting should be made of the health center if the clinic is to serve its health function to the people.
